Apprenticeships with Monahans: Make every day ‘account’
Helping you get to where you want to be
Our ambition is to help our people meet theirs, from the start of their careers through to their retirement. That’s why we offer an extensive programme of support, training and development, ensuring our people have the support they need to learn and grow.
Kick-start your career
Monahans can offer you a step up onto the career ladder that will see you taking responsibility, solving problems, making decisions and working with interesting and varied clients to make a difference in their futures. An apprenticeship will see you developing these real-world skills, whilst working towards a professional qualification.
Interested? Here’s a flavour of what you could receive.
Train while you work
The cost of university tuition fees is increasingly daunting but an apprenticeship with Monahans offers you an avenue into accounting and business advisory services without incurring the debt that comes with a university degree.
Train on the job for qualifications at varying levels from AAT level 3 and level 4 to professional chartered accountancy qualifications, such as Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), or the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification, all while enjoying client exposure and early responsibility.
Through a structured progression programme, you will also develop a broad set of skills, such as data analysis and interpretation, problem solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills, teamwork and collaboration, helping you to thrive in the business world.
An approachable support system
While the journey to qualification can be challenging, you won’t be alone! You will have support from a coach and a line manager. With their experiences, they are perfectly placed to help you through the challenges you might face and will be on hand to support you with any concerns. You will also be joining as part of a small group of trainees, so you can help one another through the process.
Trainee Gabriel applied to Monahans whilst studying for his A Levels. Now an Associate, he is still drawn to the firm’s “close-knit team,” even after four years. “The best thing is the people,” he says. “We’re very inclusive. There’s an open-door policy; people are always willing to have a chat and that’s especially important for the junior members of the team in helping them feel encouraged and supported. That vibe you get in the office and the ability to have those chats, it creates a very nice work environment to be in.”
Generous study packages
With Monahans’ generous study packages, the costs of pursuing a career in finance needn't be prohibitive. We offer paid time off for course attendance, study leave and exams, and even pay for professional membership to the ICAEW.
We have also developed a pay framework to ensure that we financially reward those who are performing well both in their studies and in the workplace, with regular opportunities for pay increases linked to exam passes and high performance.
What skills do you need?
You can find the entry requirements for our apprenticeships on our website but it’s important to stress that for a successful career in accountancy, you don’t necessarily need to be a maths whizz.
With its many and varied roles, the profession requires a broad set of skills such as problem solving, data analysis and effective communication, and you will be encouraged to build on your strengths with a career that is tailored to you.
One of Monahan’s former trainees, Andrew, decided to make a switch from his career with renowned manufacturers Dyson, and joined Monahans as an AAT Trainee. Progressing to chartered training, the work he did as an audit manager stood him “in really good stead because clients need someone with a strong corporate understanding to help guide them through modern business.” Exposure to different business areas, a highly dependable team and a culture of inclusivity explain Andrew’s commitment to Monahans and this has enabled his progression to Partner.
