Updates to employment
With the new tax year came new employment frameworks under the Employment Rights Act 2025. Several provisions came into force from 6th April 2026, including increased National Living Wage to £12.71 per hour for workers aged 21+ from 1 April 2026.
Employers are now also required to keep more detailed holiday pay records for 6 years and workers will be entitled to certain rights from day one of their employment, including Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) and Paternity and Parental Leave.
There is likely to be further administrative burdens and increased payroll costs for SMEs as a result of these changes.
