Before we go… make sure you have yourself a few Trivial Benefits this Christmas!
If you’re thinking of the perfect way to reward your employees after a year of hard work and success, then don’t forget to make the most of any tax perks too!
Hosting an annual Christmas party is tax-free if it’s open to all employees, happens once a year and costs no more than £150 per person. That even includes virtual events – like Teams-hosted quizzes or online cocktail classes – so you can include hybrid or remote workers too. Even hampers sent to homes count, so it’s really easy to include everyone in your celebrations.
Small gifts can also be given tax-free under the “trivial benefits” rule, as long as they’re not cash, cost £50 or less and aren’t tied to performance – they have to be a genuine gift.
And, to top it off, employers can combine a party with thoughtful gifts – so you can go all in and have both – some might say have your Christmas cake and eat it too – for a real joyful celebration that keeps both staff and HMRC happy.
